We Are:
Accenture’s SAP practice, and we live to see how technology can transform the way we live and work. We bring reinvention to life using design thinking, modern delivery methodologies, embedding AI into the way we deliver and into our clients’ business processes.
Utilities are being reshaped by the energy transition. Customers are becoming producers as well as consumers, tariffs are becoming dynamic, smart metering and electric vehicle charging are creating new services to bill, and affordability pressures and tighter customer-protection rules are changing how debt is managed. Behind every one of those changes is a customer account that must be billed, collected, protected and accounted for accurately across millions of customers.
SAP Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable (FI-CA) has sat at the heart of the SAP utilities landscape for decades. It runs payments, deposits, budget billing and installment plans, dunning, disconnection, collections, refunds and write-offs, and it posts the result to the general ledger. It is a core component of SAP IS-U and of SAP S/4HANA Utilities, and increasingly it works alongside SAP Convergent Invoicing and SAP BRIM for new energy services. As utilities move from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, the FI-CA design decisions are among the most consequential in the program. Accenture has been a market leader in the SAP BRIM space since 2016, with a global BRIM Center of Excellence. We are expanding our US FI-CA capability to help the world’s leading utilities modernize customer accounting and prepare for what comes next.
You Are:
You have a passion for the utilities industry and for delivering SAP-based customer accounting and billing transformation projects that make a positive impact on your clients’ business. Are you inspired by working with the best companies in their industries? Want a role that provides you with a sense of purpose and satisfaction?
Then join Accenture and build a rewarding career improving the way the world works and lives, as you help clients innovate with leading-edge SAP and Accenture solutions and technologies on some of the most innovative projects in the world.
Thrive in our highly collaborative, digitally-driven and innovation-led environment. Nurture your talent for thoughtful and game changing solutions in our inclusive culture that values diversity of ideas, experiences and backgrounds.
You are a confident leader with deep contract accounting expertise who understands that, for a utility, FI-CA is where regulation, customer protection and finance meet. You know how to design payment, collections and disconnection processes that protect cash flow while treating vulnerable customers fairly, and you know how to carry decades of FI-CA history safely into SAP S/4HANA. You translate client goals into clear, actionable designs that Finance, Customer Operations and Technology can all get behind. The more complex the regulatory and customer landscape, the more excited you are about leading the charge to solve it.
The Work:
Team with clients on their SAP customer accounting and utilities transformation programs through your combined SAP FI-CA expertise and functional process knowledge, which includes your ability to:
- Engage with client leaders across Finance, Customer Operations, Billing & Collections, Credit & Risk and Regulatory Affairs on the challenges shaping receivables, cash and customer accounts in utilities, and on the value of SAP FI-CA and the wider SAP utilities and BRIM portfolio (current and future)
- Lead the design of FI-CA for utilities, including business partner and contract account models, payment processing and clearing, security deposits, budget billing and instalment plans, refunds and final bills, and posting to the general ledger
- Design dunning, collections and disconnection processes that balance cash recovery with regulatory obligations, hardship and affordability programs, third-party collection agencies, bad debt write-offs and provisioning
- Design the integration of FI-CA with SAP IS-U / SAP S/4HANA Utilities billing, device management and customer service, and with SAP Convergent Invoicing, Convergent Charging and SAP BRIM where utilities are extending into services such as EV charging, energy services and non-commodity products
- Lead the transition of FI-CA from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, including scope and approach, business partner harmonization, migration of open items and balances, mass-run performance at utility volumes, and cutover aligned to bill cycles
- Design the period-end close for the subledger, including reconciliation to the general ledger, unbilled revenue and receivables reporting, aging, and bad debt provisioning
- Deploy AI use cases within SAP delivery to improve efficiency, from accelerated design and configuration to automated testing, data migration and reconciliation
- Lead FI-CA workstreams and project teams of varying size and scope, onsite with clients or within Accenture, including teams working in a Global Delivery Model
- Own delivery quality and commercial outcomes for your workstream, including estimation, staffing plans, risk management and client satisfaction
- Be a thought leader, build assets, accelerators, demos and best practices, and develop the next generation of FI-CA practitioners
Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.
What You Need:
- Minimum of 5 years of SAP functional experience, including at least 4 years of hands-on experience in SAP Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable (FI-CA) in SAP IS-U or SAP S/4HANA Utilities environments
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in SAP projects supporting Utilities clients (SAP support / managed services experience will not be considered for this requirement)
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with core FI-CA processes in a utilities context, including contract accounts, payment processing and clearing, security deposits, instalment plans, dunning, collections, disconnection, refunds, write-offs and reconciliation to the general ledger
- Working knowledge of how FI-CA integrates with utilities billing and invoicing, device management, customer service and the SAP S/4HANA general ledger
- Experience running design workshops and leading an FI-CA workstream through configuration, testing, data migration, cutover and go-live and/or experience leading SAP delivery teams in a Global Delivery Model
- Prior experience in a Consulting/Advisory role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years’ work experience). If Associate’s Degree, must have equivalent minimum 6-year work experience
Bonus Points If:
- You have SAP certifications relevant to the role, such as SAP FI-CA, SAP S/4HANA Utilities or SAP BRIM
- You have supported sales origination, RFP responses or client demos for utilities transformation opportunities
- You have hands-on exposure to SAP BTP or AI-enabled accelerators applied to collections, cash application or reconciliation
