Job Summary:

As a Data Science intern, you will have an impact on PayPal’s products all around the world and you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and exposure to the world of data science. This internship is designed to provide a talented and aspiring data scientist with real-world challenges and projects to sharpen their skills while contributing to our data-driven initiatives.

Our interns work to better understand our end-users, identify opportunities, and improve our products by creating personal and smart experiences. By making use of PayPal’s endless amount of data, you will leverage your data and machine learning skills for the research and delivery of end-to-end ML solutions. If you are interested to be a Data Scientist/Machine learning and have sharp analytical skills and a passion for deriving new insights, solving unique challenges, leveraging machine learning algorithms, and working in a highly collaborative, values-driven environment.

Job Description:

As a Data Scientist Intern, you will work alongside experienced data scientists, engineers, and product teams to analyze data and uncover insights that inform business and customer decisions. You’ll contribute to defining metrics, conducting analyses and experiments, and communicating findings and recommendations, with guidance from your team. You should be collaborative, curious, and eager to learn as we use data to improve PayPal’s products and services.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, explain business performance, and develop actionable recommendations.

• Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to define success measures, improve data quality, and support reliable analytics.

• Design and evaluate analyses and experiments to inform product decisions and business priorities.

• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders.

• Manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience analyzing complex datasets and translating findings into actionable recommendations.

• Proficiency in SQL and experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker; Python or R experience is a plus.

• Strong knowledge of statistics, including hypothesis testing and regression, and familiarity with experimentation.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; able to work through ambiguity and collaborate across teams.

Internship Program Requirements:

• This is a Summer 2027 Internship program. Spring and Fall 2027 internships are not available.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field at an accredited college or university.

• Must be returning to school in Fall 2027.

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
